Edgewood Elementary School students credited with assisting ill bus driver

A pair of elementary school students has been credited with assisting an ill bus driver.

According to officials with Edgewood Elementary School, a bus driver felt sick while behind the wheel earlier this week. The driver pulled over when she began to feel unwell.

After the driver pulled over, students stepped in to assist her, using the radio system on the bus to call for help.

During an assembly on Thursday, the two students were honored by the Anderson Police Department. APD presented the students with certificates in front of their classmates.

“Thank you, lord, for saving those babies and the woman that was driving,” said Jennia Davis, the grandmother of one of the students who were honored. “You send your kids out thinking they’re always gonna come home. What could have happened didn’t. So, I’m really emotional. Very happy that he knew what to do.”

Officials with Edgewood Elementary School have confirmed the driver of the bus is still recovering from the incident.
