Edgewood Music Makers

General Description:
Music Makers is an early childhood music and movement program for infants through 4-year-olds. Children and the caregiver who attends class with them will engage in a variety of activities together as they learn new songs and rhymes. This program is strongly based on "First Steps in Music" curriculum created by Dr. John Feierabend, a leading expert in music in early childhood. Classes will be taught by Staci Miller, Edgewood Elementary's music teacher.

Classes:
Class size is limited to ten. Classes with fewer than four participants will be canceled. Classes are held in the school's music room.

Infants and Toddlers (newborn-age 2) Friday Mornings: 10:15-11:00 am

Children learn so much during their first years of life! They quickly grow from helpless snuggly infants to walking, jumping, talking toddlers eager to explore their world.

These classes give parents and children an opportunity to play together as we explore music. Infants will have their caregiver sing and play with them, and the toddlers will be encouraged to actively participate in the music-making fun.

Activities will include bounces, wiggles, tickles, dancing, songs, circle games, and lullabies. Caregivers will be given suggestions and ideas of how to continue this musical play at home as they leave each week.

Nursery and Preschool (age 3-4) Tuesdays 4:00-4:30 pm

By this age, children are increasingly independent and able to participate independently in more activities. Caregivers still attend classes with their child, allowing them to play and have fun together.

We will continue to explore music through movement and singing. Children will learn to use high and low voices and begin to learn to sing independently.

Children will engage in an eight-part musical workout that includes pitch exploration, song fragments, simple songs, arioso, song tale, movement exploration, movement for form and expression, and movement with the beat.

Children will have the opportunity to play rhythm instruments and drums and will also begin to create their own songs and dances using their imagination.
